Well it’s coming into August my parents are off to Budapest
on Thursday and are away for 2 months, they are biking up the Danube River all
the way to Switzerland. While they are away I am doing up my son’s room, I have
filled in all the holes with wall paste, and just have to sand them down and
redo any of the holes that aren’t quite filled up, I am also re-wallpapering
and fixing the gap in the floor between the carpet and the door ( my son has a
deck off his room) the carpet had worn through so the carpet nails have come
thru, I do have a mat over it at present but since I am also laying down carpet
tiles ( foam backed for extra padding) I am going to fix the gap first before I
get the carpet tiles. He wants a travel room as he is wanting to become a
flight attendant, I have peel and stick wallpaper in white wood design, I
bought an electric drill and screwdriver, I am adding a rod to the top of the
sliding door for rod curtains, these are scenery curtains ( they have a picture
of Hawaii) they are also block out curtains to keep the room dark at night or
block the sun in summer, I am getting him new net curtains and a wall tapestry
( a city design one) for the old doorway
that has been closed up but is a blank space, I am also adding sound proofing
pads to the old doorway as the covering is really thin and this will give it
more thickness and less sound will travel from his room to the lounge, - he
plays on his PlayStation and sometimes is a bit loud, after my son’s room is
done I am doing my room up in a Hawaiian theme, from the tropical bush to the
beach to just the sea animals my room is my old sewing room she use to run a
sewing business from home so there are plugs for Christmas 😎.
First I am going to do all my walls and re-wallpaper them,
then I am getting new drawers and a new single bed and mattress, I don’t need a
big bed and my cat will adjust 😂, this will give me more room and space in my
room, I am getting a wardrobe for beside my bed ( as I use the actual wardrobe as
a storage closet – it has shelves all the way down so I have 5 large shelves
for storage ) 😎,
I am getting a hallway console to place beside my desk to sit the computers on
when charging, and a storage ottoman underneath that to store my many shoes.
Then my next big purchase will be a rod and pocket rod curtains for my window
and I am looking at a roller blind for my two way window that faces the front
door, it will give me more room in the corner as I will not have to worry about
a long curtain in the way, my main window will probably be rod curtains as
well, all block out of course, I am going to buy a detail sander ( mouse
sander) to redo my window sills as my cat damaged them when fat and stuck his
claws into the wood and placed holes and claw marks in them so I will sand them
stain them and get window sil coverings ( it’s a padded thing that goes on the
window sil to protect them ) especially since my cat still sits on the window
sil he’s old now like he will be 16 at Christmas ( that’s 80 cat years) so he’s
not as fat as he was. Still likes to people watch from my window though 😂.
All my large items in my room including all the drawers and
my desk I have DIY’d myself, I have 3 cupboards, a 2.2m bookcase, 4 drawers, and
a desk, also put my son’s drawers and larger things in his room together, pretty
much the home DIY person 😁. My last item I will buy is a new upright
side by side fridge freezer I currently have two upright separate ones a fridge
and a freezer – these I will sell after buy my new one, I have had them for
about 10yrs they perfectly fine they are German made so long lasting.
I find doing large projects that require me to use my
unusual skills that I qualified myself in, something to do and also a challenge
I like planning and sorting and working out where things will go and then once
I have everything I go out and achieve the goal, doing my son’s room up will be
the last time it gets done as it’s his older mature room, he’s almost 16, ( has
the maturity of an adult cos he had to grow up faster than most kids due to the
fact I was so ill) he still had a childhood and we still travelled and did
things it’s just he had more of a sense of how things worked than most kids due
to the fact I was in the hospital a lot and really unwell.
Anyway will keep you all updated as I go thru the DIYing of
the rooms – hope you all have found new things and hobbies you can enjoy and
explore – take cares out there it’s winter here and there is tons of snow where
I grew up kind of miss the snow in winter ❄️.
